7.2 Code of Conduct
NXT’s Code of Conduct is more than a laundry list of do’s and don’ts; it is a social contract designed to cultivate a culture of respectful inquiry, collaborative problem-solving, and intellectual honesty. The document begins by affirming a few non-negotiable principles: mutual respect, zero tolerance for harassment, and commitment to transparency. Respect means addressing ideas rather than attacking individuals, using inclusive language, and recognising cultural differences in a globally distributed community. Harassment includes personal insults, unwanted sexual attention, or persistent trolling; violations trigger a clear, escalatory enforcement ladder managed by elected moderators.
Transparency manifests in two ways. First, contributors discussing proposals must disclose material affiliations—employment, financial stakes, or advisory roles—so that readers can interpret opinions with the proper context. Second, any moderation action beyond a polite warning is logged in a publicly viewable “Moderation Ledger” channel on the forum, detailing the nature of the infraction and the remedial step taken. This ledger helps avert the perception of censorship or arbitrary discipline and provides newcomers with concrete examples of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.
The enforcement ladder has three rungs. A first offence generally receives a soft warning delivered privately, aimed at educating rather than punishing. If the behaviour continues, moderators issue a temporary mute ranging from 24 hours to two weeks, during which the user can read but not post. Severe or repeated breaches—such as hate speech or doxxing—trigger account suspension or permanent removal. A suspended user may appeal by submitting a written statement to a rotating panel of community delegates who review evidence and vote on reinstatement, ensuring checks and balances on moderator power.
Accessibility and clarity underpin the Code’s drafting. Each rule includes at least one illustrative example drawn from real incidents (stripped of identifying details) to minimise ambiguity. The text is written at an upper-secondary reading level and translated into the five most common community languages. Updates to the Code require a governance proposal and a simple-majority vote among token-holding delegates, reflecting the belief that community norms should evolve through collective consent rather than unilateral decree. By embedding transparency, structured enforcement, and democratic revision, the Code of Conduct provides a living framework that balances individual expression with the shared objective of building a trustworthy, inclusive financial ecosystem.
